EPIPHANY “Timket”…..This fiesta is the Ethiopian Orthodox celebration of Epiphany and worships Christ’s baptism in the River Jordan. Although the fiesta is observed by orthodox Christians all over the globe, in Ethiopia it takes on an extra ordinary implication as it is the major colorful experience of the year. The most important figure of the fiesta is multicolored overstated umbrellas so as to care for the blessed Tabot and the priests moving the Tabot.

The Tabot is a depiction of Jesus as the Messiah when he came to the Jordan River for baptism. The cleric subsequently blesses the water body and sprinkles some of the blessed water on the followers.
